Subject to the necessary grant, a position as Professor in Kierkegaard Studies will be available as from 1st May, 2010 in the Søren Kierkegaard Research Centre, the Department for Systematic Theology in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Copenhagen. The position is part of the "Women in Research and Management at the University of Copenhagen" programme (http://mangfoldighed.ku.dk/english/women_research_management/) and is limited to a 5 year period.
The purpose of the Søren Kierkegaard Research Centre is to carry out and promote interdisciplinary Kierkegaard research and teaching from theological, philosophical, and literary perspectives at both the national and international level. The Centre is internationally recognized as the leading institute in the field of Kierkegaard studies today. It is the host to numerous guest scholars at the doctoral, postdoctoral and senior level. The person appointed will be required to strengthen and develop the particular research and teaching programme of the Centre within the fields of interdisciplinary Kierkegaard Studies.
The position involves a commitment to function as acting director of the Centre and to take an active part in the Centre and the Faculty’s research environment, teaching and examination work related to the theology programmes at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels, open programmes and any new areas of study. Furthermore applicants must have documented broad academic experiences within the fields of administration, research management, research and teaching development, conference organization, assessment committees, editorial works, and collective and individual research projects as well as comprehensive interdisciplinary experience and strong international network.
Applicants must also have documented original academic production at the highest international level and contributed to the development of the field of Kierkegaard Studies. They must also be able to document strong interest in teaching and higher level education. The position involves a commitment to manage and initiate the further development of a strong study and research environment with an international profile, and so presupposes a regular presence in this environment.
A more even distribution between the sexes is desired among the faculty’s academic staff. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, irrespective of age, sex, race, religion and ethnic origin.
It is a requirement that the person appointed is able to teach in Danish and English. If the selected person is not a Danish speaker, he or she is obliged to learn the language within two years of being appointed.
Applications must include documentation of the applicant’s education, employment, research contribution, and teaching experience.
A complete, numbered list of publications must be included.
The applicant should mention up to five publications on which he or she particularly relies. The applicant cannot, however, require the panel of assessors to ignore the applicant’s other publications. The publications specifically mentioned must be submitted together with the application. If the panel of assessors finds it necessary to look at other material, the applicant will be informed and required to send what is requested. If material is enclosed that is the work of several authors, the extent and character of the applicant’s contribution must be made clear in the application.
All material must be sent in four copies.
The appointment will take place under the agreement in force between the Ministry of Finance and the applicant’s professional organisation. The salary will be in Grade 37. A special taxation scheme may apply to foreigners (http://www.skat.dk/SKAT.aspx?oId=97319&vId=201522).
After the deadline for applications, a panel of qualified assessors will be appointed. Applicants will be informed who is on the panel. When the panel has made its decision, every applicant will be sent the part of the assessment that concerns him or her. The next stage is the interview. Before the Dean can make a decision on the appointment, a meeting must be held with one or possibly several of the applicants whom the panel has judged to be qualified. At the meeting(s) the faculty will be represented by the Dean, the Director of Studies, the Chairman of the panel of assessors, and the Head of Department.
